Sowing a Culture of Interdependence
How 'bought in' are the other staff members? In multi-branch systems where the seed library is housed at only one location, do the other locations talk up the seed library?
Is your seed library considered a 'collection', like the genealogy section or the government documents? Or is it considered a 'library with a library'?
Carol Erkens, Adult Services Librarian
Omaha Public Library
Our library is small - we're in a a rural town of 7000. We don't have branches and there are only 3 of us that are employed there. I started the seed library and the other 2 librarians are very supportive, but they aren't bought in at all. I'm on my own with it.
Our seed library is basically considered a library within a library. I barcoded all the packets, so they do get checked onto patron's accounts, but other than that, it could be picked up and moved across town. I kept it separate so that I would be able to receive grant funding.
